The 10 worlds best sky bars
We all love them: sky bars! Here are the 10 best. Have you been to all of these?
The city’s highest bar-lounge, Aer, covers the entire 34th floor rooftop of the Four Seasons hotel situated in an emerging commercial district in south Mumbai. Order a champagne cocktail and chicken tikka pizza during daily half-price “sunset happy hour.” Or stay for the evening, gazing out to the Arabian Sea, while a DJ spins house and funk.
Banker and broker heaven since it opened along with The Ritz earlier this year, OZONE is the highest bar atop the world’s tallest hotel. Its lounge and outdoor terrace are on the 118th floor of the International Commerce Centre, an office-shopping complex in West Kowloon that’s packed with power brokers from Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse, whose Asian head offices are on lower floors. Shimmying on a neon dance floor, you’ll take in unrivaled views of the skyscraper-filled downtown.
SIROCCO SKY BAR
If you don’t know this one, watch the Hangover II. Sky Bar’s innovative cocktails, striking atmosphere and spectacular views earned it the distinction of being named “the most stunning rooftop bar you’ll ever see” by the New York Times and becoming the highlight of Bangkok’s nightlife scene, situated on the 63rd floor of the beautiful Lebua hotel.
Situated on Singapore’s highest point – 282m above sea level – 1-Altitude features a sunken bar and two mixologist capsules where guests can try their hand at concocting their own drinks. Or they can just order something simple and enjoy the view.
In the Mexican city of Puebla, La Purificadora distinguishes itself with an unexpected design feature – a glass-walled swimming pool idea for anyone who might fancy a quick dip between rounds. Ricardo Legorreta, one of Mexico’s most famed architects, is responsible for the design.
Hong Kong once more… Aqua spirit faces the city’s spectacular harbour and the skyline is best appreciated during the Symphony of Lights. The nightly event sees buildings along the waterfront illuminated in a dazzling display of synchronised lights and music. As for the bar itself, the stylish David Collins-designed space is a popular spot for cocktails and hosts regular performances by popular local DJs. Try the sushi!
The Rock Bar at AYANA Resort and Spa is located on natural rocks 14 metres above the Indian Ocean. Understandly popular with drinkers who want to admire the setting sun, the bar also hosts DJ performances and remains a popular spot after dark.
On the 58th floor of Shanghai’s IFC tower, Flair is the rooftop bar of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Pudong. On warm days the outdoor terrace heaves with guests, tourists and locals admiring a view that takes in the Bund, the Pearl Tower and the surrounding city.
UPSTAIRS AT THE KIMBERLY
On the 26th floor of the beautiful W Hotel in Barcelona, you’ll find a sky bar with the most magnificent view of the city. It’s a perfect place to grab a cocktail while enjoying the beautiful city of Barcelona on one side and the gorgeous Mediterranean sea on your other side. It is one of the rooftop bars in Barcelona where people like to see and be seen, especially during happy hour on a Friday afternoon. And if you feel like bringing your cocktail down to the beach, there’s a nice beach hut right below the terrace.
